PERMALINK

Finally found the perfect personal budgeting software for me. Buy (or find?) the full version for $30 coz the lite version limits you to one account and you will surely need more than one. I love the calendar/scheduler section.
+ For a simpler budgeting, totally free & no limits, look for Abassis Finance Manager, but acemoney has more.

Self-Dependence by Matthew Arnold

"... Unaffrighted by the silence round them,
Undistracted by the sights they see,
These demand not that the things without them
Yield them love, amusement, sympathy.
'And with joy the stars perform their shining,
And the sea its long moon-silver'd roll;
For self-poised they live, nor pine with noting
All the fever of some differing soul...
O air-born voice! long since, severely clear,
A cry like thine in mine own heart I hear:
'Resolve to be thyself; and know that he,
Who finds himself, loses his misery! "
+ About Matthew Arnold
"... For Arnold, nature's "secret was not joy, but peace." He loved her in her quieter and more subdued moods; he preferred her silences to her many voices, moonlight to sunlight, the sea retreating from the "moon-blanch'd land" with "its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar," to the sea in tumult and storm. The sea--"the unplumb'd, salt, estranging sea"--was, for him, the one element in which he discovered the deepest reflection of his own melancholy and sense of isolation. But, above everything, what he worshipped in nature was her steadfastness and calm, ever teaching the lesson of Self-Dependence.
... an effort to live "self-poised," like the powers of nature, until we feel our souls becoming vast like them. But, in spite of these counsels of fortitude, we find the poet himself often possessed by a wistful yearning to "make for some impossible shore"--"agitated," as he says of Marcus Aurelius, and "stretching out his hands for something beyond."

a good review of the movie, MISS AUSTEN REGRETS. more to say later!

"... She (Jane Austen) had sympathy for women who showed a romantic indifference to worldly prudence in the name of true love, affectionately mocking such a one in Marianne, the heroine of her first mature novel, ''Sense and Sensibility.'' Marianne's rebellions are tamed; she ends up marrying a middle-aged colonel with rheumatism. But her impetuous warmth is so full of freshness and decency that one senses that the real fault was less in the romantic excess of her first love than in a deeply unlucky (''unsuitable'') choice of object. Austen's last novel, ''Persuasion,'' reverses the pattern, suggesting the rightness of obeying one's first and strongest affections, of taking risks for love, of the error of not marrying in youth because your elders thought a suitor unsuitable..."

I Told You
by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
I told you the winter would go, love,
I told you the winter would go,
That he'd flee in shame when the south wind came,
And you smiled when I told you so.
You said the blustering fellow
Would never yield to a breeze,
That his cold, icy breath had frozen to death
The flowers, the birds, and trees.
And I told you the snow would melt, love,
In the passionate glance o' the sun;
And the leaves o' the trees, and the flowers and bees,
Would come back again, one by one.
That the great, gray clouds would vanish,
And the sky turn tender and blue;
And the sweet birds would sing, and talk of the spring
And, love, it has all come true.
I told you that sorrow would fade, love,
And you would forget half your pain;
That the sweet bird of song would waken ere long,
And sing in your bosom again;
That hope would creep out of the shadows,
And back to its nest in your heart,
And gladness would come, and find its old home,
And that sorrow at length would depart.
I told you that grief seldom killed, love,
Though the heart might seem dead for awhile.
But the world is so bright, and full of warm light
That 'twould waken at length, in its smile.
Ah, love! was I not a true prophet?
There's a sweet happy smile on your face;
Your sadness has flown - the snow-drift is gone,
And the buttercups bloom in its place."

Just saw here a British series called As Time Goes By (1992) with Judi Dench. and I must say it was lovely! :) Their verbal bantering as husband and wife were funny and witty, great dialogues really (so not like the nonsense chattering in Gilmore girls). That one gives me headache. I saw one, so 66 to go?

"We do not need to recite here the history of racial injustice in this country. But we do need to remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist between the African-American community and the larger American community today can be traced directly to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered ...
... We can reject the cynicism that tells us that these kids can't learn; that those kids who don't look like us are somebody else's problem. The children of America are not those kids, they are our kids, and we will not let them fall behind in a 21st century economy. Not this time."

am all about tennis these days so here i downloaded this one and am able to watch here the matches i miss on cable/tv. it's like streaming cable but you have to excuse the quality. look for star sports. they love tennis there.

+ Does Roger Federer eat Pringles? :)
***update: i think i'm letting go of my cabletv! i just realized i only watch 5 things -- local sitcoms, news, food network, tennis and scifi. and internet P2Ps can actually provide these. there are a lot of options out there. just search in your google p2p internet tv.. they usually ask you to download their software. they also offer tvguides in their websites.
